After 48 hours and quite complicated connections we have arrived at Sydney! Our flight from Heathrow was delayed 3 hours and that caused a series of other complications. In Singapore nobody made it on time to get connections to Perth, Sydney and Brisbane. Some of the passangers had to stay in a hotel at the airport to get their plane next day. Fortunately we get the plane to Melbourne, where after almost 10 hours of flight we caught, by a chance, a connection to Sydney. What is good in this story is that we are jet lagged a little bit less and we feel pretty good as for that hours. In Sydney it’s +27 degrees centigrade and high humidity. There is part of the VK9LA team in our hotel: Tony IZ3ESV with Maddalena, Chris Vk3QB, San K5YY. We are going for dinner in couple of minutes. Tomorrow at 11:50 LCT we depart to Lord Howe Island! Was the 30 meter operation on Sunday morning (about 1000 UTC) a pirate or is there any advance party on the island that might have been operating? I was one of many that worked “VK9LA” (quotes intentional hi hi) at that time. I have not seen them spotted before or since.

    2. Hi David

This is taken from the VK9LA website:

VK4FW will arrive on Sunday 22nd Mar.He will begin unpacking and sorting equipment and might manage to get a station on air for Sunday evening local time. Monday 4 more of the crew arrive and will begin further assembly. We will try to get 2 stations on air asap. Tuesday, when the rest of the crew arrive we will finish assembly and get all station on air asap.

So far they have been on 20 SSB & 30, 40 and 80 CW – have a quick check of the multimedia section on this site and you’ll see two recordings.
